Same-Day Appointments

Dental emergencies can be alarming and painful, often requiring immediate attention to relieve discomfort and preserve your oral health. Prompt treatment is essential to minimize damage and increase the chances of saving affected teeth.

Common Dental Emergencies and What to Do

Avulsed Tooth (Knocked-Out Tooth):
If a tooth is knocked out, act quickly:

  1. Handle the tooth by the crown and rinse it gently. Avoid touching the root.

  2. Place it back in its socket if possible, or tuck it into the cheek pouch.

  3. If this isn’t possible, store the tooth in milk or saliva (not water).

  4. Contact our office immediately for assistance.

If treated within an hour, the tooth may reattach, but further treatment like root canal therapy may be necessary.

Lost Filling or Crown:
A missing filling or crown can cause sensitivity. While waiting for your appointment:

  1. Apply clove oil to the tooth to reduce pain.

  2. Use dental cement (available at pharmacies) to temporarily secure the crown or cover the tooth.

  3. DO NOT use glue to reattach the crown.

We will evaluate the crown, treat any decay, and either reattach it or create a new crown using our CEREC same-day restoration technology.

Cracked or Broken Teeth:
For fractures or cracks:

  1. Rinse your mouth and any tooth fragments with lukewarm water.

  2. Apply gauze if bleeding and a cold compress to reduce swelling.

  3. Cover the affected area with dental cement if you can’t see us immediately.

Depending on the severity, treatment may range from bonding the fragment to root canal therapy if the crack extends into the root.

Dislodged or Loose Teeth:
If a tooth is partially dislodged:

  1. Call our office immediately.

  2. Use a cold compress and over-the-counter pain relievers for discomfort.

We may reposition and stabilize the tooth with splints. If healing doesn’t occur, root canal therapy may be required.
